Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about nutrition consultations, dietary planning, and how we can support your health goals.

Your initial session lasts approximately 60 minutes and focuses on understanding your current eating habits, health history, and specific goals. We review your typical daily meals, discuss any medical conditions or dietary restrictions, and assess your lifestyle factors including activity level and stress patterns. You'll receive a comprehensive nutritional assessment and we'll outline a realistic action plan tailored to your circumstances. This session also allows us to establish clear objectives and determine the best approach for your individual needs. Many clients find this first meeting particularly valuable as it provides clarity on their current nutritional status and practical next steps.

Our approach focuses on sustainable eating patterns rather than restrictive diets. We create flexible meal frameworks that fit your lifestyle, preferences, and budget. You'll learn how to make informed food choices while still enjoying meals you love. The guidance we provide includes portion awareness, balanced plate composition, and strategies for different situations like dining out or busy weekdays. We believe in gradual, manageable changes that become lasting habits. Some clients prefer more structured plans initially, while others work better with general principles and weekly goals. The level of structure adapts to what works best for you and your schedule.

Timeline varies based on your specific goals and starting point. Many clients notice improved energy levels and digestion within the first two weeks of implementing changes. For weight management goals, a realistic timeframe is 0.5-1 kg per week, though this depends on various factors including metabolism and adherence. Health markers like cholesterol or blood sugar typically show measurable improvements within 8-12 weeks of consistent dietary modifications. We track progress through regular check-ins and adjust strategies as needed. Remember that lasting change takes time, and we focus on building habits that support long-term health rather than quick fixes that don't last.

We work with various health conditions including diabetes, high cholesterol, digestive issues, food intolerances, and cardiovascular concerns. Our approach involves evidence-based nutritional strategies that complement medical treatment. For conditions like coeliac disease or inflammatory bowel disease, we provide practical guidance on managing symptoms through diet while ensuring nutritional adequacy. We also collaborate with your GP or specialist when appropriate to ensure coordinated care. Each plan considers your medications, test results, and medical recommendations. It's important to note that nutrition consultation supports but doesn't replace medical treatment. We focus on dietary factors that can positively influence your condition while working within the framework of your overall healthcare plan.

The consultation fee covers your session time, personalized meal planning guidance, written recommendations, and email support between appointments. You'll receive detailed notes summarizing our discussion and your action plan. For initial consultations, this includes a comprehensive nutritional assessment and goal-setting framework. Follow-up sessions involve progress review, plan adjustments, and addressing any challenges you've encountered. We also provide educational resources, recipe suggestions, and shopping tips relevant to your needs. The fee does not include supplements or specialized testing, though we can recommend these separately if beneficial. Most clients find that investing in professional guidance saves money long-term by reducing trial-and-error with different approaches.

Follow-up frequency depends on your goals and progress. Initially, most clients benefit from appointments every 2-4 weeks to establish new habits and address challenges promptly. This regular contact helps maintain momentum and allows for timely adjustments. As you become more confident with your plan, sessions can space out to monthly or every 6-8 weeks. Some clients prefer ongoing monthly check-ins for accountability, while others schedule appointments as needed once they've established their routine. For specific health conditions or significant dietary changes, more frequent monitoring may be appropriate initially. We'll discuss the recommended schedule during your first session and adjust based on how you're progressing and what level of support feels most helpful.

About Jexosi

Helping people across Manchester and beyond make informed dietary choices since 2015

Nutrition consultation at Jexosi Manchester office

Our Story

Jexosi was established in 2015 by three registered dietitians who met during their clinical practice at Manchester Royal Infirmary. We noticed a gap between hospital nutrition care and what people needed after discharge. Many patients left with generic diet sheets but lacked ongoing support to implement changes at home.

Starting from a single consultation room on Oak Road, we began offering personalised nutrition guidance. Our first year served 127 clients. Today, our team of eight specialists works with over 800 clients annually, providing consultations both in-person and remotely across the UK.

What began as a small practice has grown into a comprehensive service. We now collaborate with GP surgeries, sports clubs, and corporate wellness programmes throughout Greater Manchester.

Our Approach

We base our work on current evidence from peer-reviewed research and guidelines from the British Dietetic Association. Each client receives an assessment that considers their medical history, current eating patterns, lifestyle factors, and specific goals. This typically involves a 60-minute initial consultation followed by regular follow-ups.

Our dietitians hold degrees in nutrition and dietetics from UK universities and maintain registration with the Health and Care Professions Council. The team includes specialists in diabetes management, sports nutrition, gastrointestinal conditions, and weight management. We update our knowledge through continuing professional development, attending at least four conferences or training courses each year.

What Guides Us

Evidence-Based Practice

We recommend dietary changes supported by scientific research, not trends or unproven theories. Every suggestion we make can be traced back to published studies or established clinical guidelines.

Individual Assessment

No two clients receive identical advice. We account for your health conditions, food preferences, budget, cooking skills, and daily schedule when creating nutrition plans.

Practical Solutions

Recommendations must fit into real life. We help you shop at your local Tesco or Asda, suggest simple recipes using ingredients you already buy, and work around your work schedule and family commitments.

Ongoing Support

Changing eating habits takes time. We provide regular check-ins, adjust plans as needed, and remain available between appointments for questions or concerns that arise.
